OVERVIEW
Jefferson Starship lead guitarist Jude Gold commissioned me to create a custom guitar pick featuring his name as the focal point. The design centered around expressive, hand-drawn lettering that captured the energy and individuality of a working musician while creating a distinctive piece he could use on stage and in performance.
CHALLENGE
The challenge was to make a very small, functional object feel visually distinctive and personal. With limited space and the lettering serving as the primary design element, the typography needed to be immediately recognizable while still feeling fluid, energetic, and connected to the spontaneity of music and performance.
SOLUTION
I created custom, free-flowing lettering that gives Jude’s name an organic, almost rhythmic quality. The loose forms and expressive curves were designed to evoke the movement and improvisation of playing guitar while remaining legible at the small scale of a guitar pick. The result is a highly personal piece of functional design that transforms a guitar pick into a visual signature.
